May the Force be with you, Dude

This is going to be a tough one to compose. Where to begin? The beginning? Nah! Temporal linearity simply won't do. One of the handful of truly influential people in my paraprofessional life is leaving. Is, for all intents, already gone. My supervisor of the past four-and-a-halfish years has accepted a position at NYU. Gone will be the discussions of everything from breakaway, uncontested shots being missed, to samurai-ninja Jedi. From the technophobe I once was, and still pretend to be from time to time, to a pseudo-geek, willing to learn, without digging in my nails, I have grown under Corey's tutelage. He once spoke of the fork in the road at library school, where aspiring librarians choose either the path of pure librarianship, or the technical geeky stuff. I know I don't have the right names for the two paths, but you get what I mean don't you Dear Reader? Anyway, Corey referred to these as the light side and the dark side. Respectively. As I put first my toe into the waters of the dark side, I believe when I created Pedestrian Subjunctives, he looked at me and said, "Gobble. Gobble. One of us." (You look up the reference. I'm not feeling very charitable right now. Hint: NOT the Ramones.) As Yoda would tell you, once you turn to the dark side, you can never go back. I found myself the apprentice of a Sith Lord. Now I must find a new master. The only candidate is female, incidentally. This prompted one of what had become a standard type of query. If a male Sith Master is a Lord, is a female a Sith Lady? I knew there weren't any female Sith (Siths?) in the Star Wars movies, but what about all the spin-offs? I googled it. (Yes, I know I used google as a verb.) I read the Wikipedia entry. (See!) Shira Elan Colla Brie, a.k.a. Lady Lumiya, is a fictional character in the Star Wars Expanded Universe. Well, there you have it. Cool. Meta-cool! I'd apologize for being all over the game board in this post, but I wouldn't mean it. I'll just throw in some keywords, for searching purposes: the crease, OCR, Cap'n Crunch, meta-anything, NOFX, caffeinated soap, caffeinated donuts, 7-11 bananas, any kind of monkey doing anything, the "mando," South Park, FRBR, Shanghai, the Jets-Raiders playoff game, haiku, ceiling heat, glog, Library Thing... enough. I have installed an ethernet card on my computer and purchased a thumb drive, or memory stick as I like to refer to it. I have become a fan of ice hockey and my eyes don't glaze over when I hear someone speaking in acronyms. I know I've left out lots of stuff. There was that much. There is that much. I know, well I'm pretty sure, I will never have the privilege again of working with a supervisor whom I can call Dude. And mean it. A friend. Maybe now I'll get some comments on this blog. The times, they are a-changin'. It's the only constant in life. I'll miss you Corey. I already do.
